A SPECIAL THANK YOU

As another year dawns, I’m taking a break from my usual format of writing about art and crime. Instead, I’m posting a shout out to everyone who came out to the A Painting to Die For book launch (or the subsequent mini-launch) and purchased a copy. I’m attaching a few photos for those not connected to my Facebook page. I also want to acknowledge my gratitude to those geographically challenged who ordered hard copies or e-books.

Further, I’d like to thank those who went the extra mile to post reviews and comments online at Goodreads and Amazon. Reviews are the lifeblood of any author, especially one who isn’t a household name or part of an established brand. While most contemporary publishers work hard to ensure their authors’ books receive a good launch, the burden of promotion and marketing usually falls to the writers themselves. Few of us are experienced promoters. It’s simply not in our DNA, given many of us are born introverts. A good review helps spread the word that a book is worth reading and provides encouragement and inspiration for the author.

Since my last post, I’ve joined Crime Writers of Canada, renewed my membership with The Writer’s Union of Canada and am working with media specialists to hopefully secure an interview, article, review and/or podcast or two to help promote the book.

Based on rankings and reviews to date, A Painting to Die For has been well received and I am toying with ideas for a sequel. However, the first novel took years of research, creative energy and editing to get right so I have no expectations of an early release. Or, perhaps, my next book will take an entirely different path. For a writer, the important thing is to savour the journey and remain open to new experience.

Best wishes in your own creative endeavours in the year ahead!

David
